The Aristokin, an isokinetic multi-joint dynamometer

Dynamic muscle functioning is mainly measured with equipment wich allows movements in one joint at a time. Performance in sport and daily life activities, however, largely depends on the force and work output of movement chains where many joints are involved.

In order to test and evaluate multi- as well as singlejoint movements, Lode has developed the Aristokin. With this concept you can control, measure and monitor the kinetics and magnitudes of various aspects of isokinetic multi-joint movements during a training or rehabilitation program. Accessories also allow you to compare measurements of multi-joint movements with measurements obtained in single-joint movements. Since the system is software controlled, various training and tests modes can be applied and immediate feedback can be presented. The system imposes a free programmable isokinetic work load which minimizes the chance of injuries and muscular pain. The applied force measurement technology warrantees this device to fit entirely with the Lode slogan "Lode the standard in Ergometry" which points at our tradition in combining versatility with high measurement precision.

The Aristokin contains a non-elastic rope with grip, connected to the force sensor. The device is unique in that it is a relatively small system which measures exerted force isokinetically, i.e. exercises can be performed at a fixed speed. The method is electrical, so that the test person only has to exert force, while the cord unrolls at the same speed irrespective of the force exerted by the test person. Speed can be adjusted for each test person. The Aristokin allows the test person to execute a large number of tests/ training sessions with a minimum risk of muscular pain or injuries, because it is virtually impossible to overtax muscles.

The Aristokin is ideally suitable for use in physiotherapy, rehabilitation, occupational health, research and sports medicine. You can also use it in medical fitness centers because the system offers a wide range of possible tests including rowing arm curls etc..
