If you’re using CT data with your 3D treatment planning system, you can get better treatment results by adding compensating filters to the equation. There are significant advantages to using compensators to achieve "intensity modulation." Compensators allow you to deliver a "static IMRT" dose using any teletherapy machine with a wedge holder. Compensators also provide superior spatial resolution.
Dose compensators, taking tissue inhomogeneities into account, can be designed by using the data from most treatment planning systems, including CMS, Prowess, ADAC, Theraplan, Plato, and RenderPlan. Compensating filter data sets are easily imported into the Autocomp computer for direct milling, on the WinMill™ milling machine, of positive or negative molds of any of several materials of your choice. The milling machine allows you to mill directly into leaded polyethylene. Or you can mill a negative mold into Styrofoam and construct the compensator by filling the mold with tin granules or similar material.
Features:
- Easy to use
- Low startup costs
- Low construction costs
- Reduced accelerator time
- Can be used on all radiation therapy units
- Does not require the acquisition and repair of MLCs
- Does not require the acquisition and software maintenance costs of Record and Verify software
- More easily verified
Compensator construction service available
If you prefer not to have a milling machine on-site for construction of your compensating filters, MED-TEC can mill the compensator for you, according to your treatment plan. Simply e-mail us the data from your treatment planning system and we will construct the compensator from the material of your choice. |
