Benchmark IMRT Phantom™

IMRT/3D QA PHANTOMMED-TEC’s IMRT Phantom is a versatile, module-based QA phantom that accommodates a range of radiation measuring tools, including ion chambers, MOSFET dosimeters, TLD chips, radiochromatic film, Ready-pack film, and polymer gel (optional) and diodes (optional). The mechanics of this unique system provide multiple locations throughout the entire phantom for placement of measuring tools, enabling the clinician to evaluate high dose gradient areas, inhomogeneity regions, and dose distribution at sensitive structures.

Ion chambers can be inserted into custom-drilled plugs, around lung-equivalent material and within bone-equivalent material. The bone-equivalent plug can be surrounded with MOSFET dosimeters; for example, to measure dose distribution to the spinal cord.

The phantom also accommodates Ready-pack film. The film slides easily between the film slots and can be identified via fiducial coordinates made with a film marker and embedded fiducial markers. In addition, a data pak features modules for TLD chips and radiochromatic film.

MED-TEC’s exclusive Benchmark IMRT Phantom™ (patent pending) was designed with these principles in mind:
  • Compatible with the entire IMRT process.
  • CT-friendly with proven image-quality engineering and fiducial markers. Verification of RTP inhomogeneity corrections via detectors combined with tissue-equivalent materials.
  • To verify 3D volume dose distribution, input devices (ion chambers, MOSFETs, etc.) can be offset in all three axes, permitting evaluation of high dose gradient areas, inhomogeneity regions, and dose distribution at sensitive structures.

Features:

  • Absolute dose verification in multiple locations throughout the Phantom.
  • Inhomogeneity correction verification of Treatment Planning System.
  • Enhanced verification of dose distribution using multiple dosimeters.
  • Sensitive structure modules for critical dose distribution evaluation.
  • Effective teaching aid for IMRT.
  • Patient plan verification.
  • Verification of spatial magnification within CT image.
  • Laser calibration tool in CT suite.
  • 3D "volumetric verification" of dose distribution using multiple dosimeters.
  • Comprehensive tool for QA and commissioning of IMRT TPS.
  • Depth dose verification.
  • Module design for customization and upgrades.
Integrated Components:

Benchmark IMRT Phantom™ and dosimeters
The mechanics of this unique system provide multiple locations throughout the entire Phantom for placement of radiation measuring devices, enabling the clinician to evaluate high dose gradient areas, inhomogeneity regions, and dose distribution at sensitive structures.

Proximity of ion chambers to lung equivalent insert
Ion chambers can be inserted into plugs, around lung- equivalent material, for measuring the beam after passing through lung tissue to verify inhomogeneity corrections done by RTP systems. Plugs can be custom-drilled for specific ion chambers.

Bone equivalent insert
A Data Pak contains a bone-equivalent insert that can be surrounded with MOSFET dosimeters, with an ion chamber inserted in the middle to measure dose distribution to the spinal cord.

Thermo Luminous Detector (TLD) chips and radiochromatic film
This Data Pak was designed with modules for TLD chips and radiochromatic film.

Clamping rods
Adjustable clamping rods tighten the various blocks together to reduce air pockets between the blocks and prevent radiation scatter. The Phantom is inscribed with beam center targets and field size indicators to assist in aligning the unit with the light field of the linac.

Benchmark IMRT Phantom™ on an IPPS™ couchtop
Using MED-TEC’s Lok-Bar™on an IPPS (Indexed Patient Positioning System) couchtop, the Phantom can easily "index" or "lock down" to the table/couch. IPPS allows you to use identical spatial references on your imaging and treatment couches. Ask your MED-TEC account representative for information on our IPPS couchtops.
