This precision-machined and engraved half-beam block features smooth rotation to accomplish the following objectives:

Make provisions for the use of wedges on tangential fields to reduce the dose variance to less than 10% from the base of the breast to its apex
Make the posterior edges of the tangential fields coplanar
Make the superior edges of the tangential fields coplanar with the inferior edges of the supraclav field to eliminate the "hot spot" beneath the skin surface at this junction.

The half-beam block is mounted on an anodized aluminum tray with an ample cutout for a positive hand grip.

Half-Beam Block Wedges
Wedges for the half-beam block quickly lock-in opposite the block and provide minimum beam attenuation while creating desired angulation of the isodose. The wedges are available in nominal 15 - 30 - 45 - 60 degree angles.
