 Motion artifacts are a major source of image degradation in lengthy imaging procedures and high-precision treatments. Rigid fixation of the treatment area is critical for accurate target localization.
The patented BodyFIX system is a whole-body patient fixation system using a vacuum system and special plastic fixation sheets. The patient is positioned on a special air-flow cushion, and the target area is covered with the plastic fixation sheet. When the vacuum system is activated, the air between the patient and the plastic sheet is evacuated, producing a homogeneous pressure to the surface of the immobilized body part without causing impressions.
This homogeneous, rigid vacuum system provides safe, effective, and comfortable immobilization, eliminating artifacts due to voluntary or involuntary motions. The fixation rigidity can be adjusted by choosing varying degrees of pressure measured and automatically re-adjusted by the microprocessor-controlled vacuum system.
For accurate reproducibility where repositioning is necessary, BodyFIX can be used with a Vac-Lok vacuum positioning cushion under the patient.
