Possible Clinical Applications For Matrix™ Shielding
1. Basal and squamous carcinomas, particularly of the face, eliminating facial plaster casts and lead shields.
2. Intra oral cancers, and shielding of oral cavity from head and neck irradiation
3. Keloid
4. Tumor treatment with electron, orthovoltage, or brachytherapy techniques at intraoral head and neck, or other body sites to contour electron field
5. Lip carcinoma
6. To lesson the photon treatment energy levels in healthy tissues so as to prevent irreversible cellular damage (i.e.: salivary glandular tissue 4,000cGy, or mandible osteoradenonecrosis <5,000cGy). This would apply where conventional cerrobend blocking techniques were not anatomically feasible or precise.
7. Laryngeal
8. Hypopharnynx
9. Nasal Vestibule
10. Inferior half nasal fossa
11. Malignant adenoma of parotid
12. Ethmoid and maxillary sinus
13. Melanoma and associated lymphatics selectively, according to staging, anatomy, surgical technique, etc.
14. Kaposi sarcoma, extra and intraoral
15. Karatoacanthoma
16. Electron shielding of 3 cm or less, as “in accelerator blocking” of electron, for such a small field is not uniform in shielding or dosage. Patient movement with thermoshield on the patient is not as critical
17. Generalized electron field contouring
18. Precise treatment of suspect lymphatic chanel (i.e.: pre-auricular chain while protecting the ear; axillary chain while protecting the breast; inguinal chain while protecting the genitalia)
19. Electron boost following multiple photon sessions(i.e.: breast lumpectomy or elsewhere)
20. Breast, according to staging, size, depth, prior to lumpectomy, etc.
21. Thyroid
22. Esophageal
23. Rhabdomyosarcoma of head and neck
24. Shield construction for presurgical irradiation in approximately 20 minutes
25. Vaginal protection of labia majora and associated radiosensitive, secretory, glandular cells. Provides precise external shielding.
26. Vulva
27. Testicular seminoma. Provides precise protection of associated healthy genitalia
28. Protection from multiple diagnostic X-rays near very radiosensitive tissues and germinal cells (i.e.: testes, ovaries, lens of eye, etc.)
29. Xiphoid process shielding, lung shielding
