During radiation therapy
and radiology procedures, a tilted position of the patient is often required. The Sinmed Thorawedge system is a unique positioning device that allows the patient to be
tilted at three fixed angles. The system consists of two wedges (5° and 10°) and a comfortable arm support. The wedges can be used separately or combined to reach a 15°
angle. Optionally, more 5° wedges can be added to form 20° or 25° angles. The arms are positioned above the head for an easy fit through the CT aperture. The comfortable
headcushion and lumbar support can be indexed, assuring a reproducible patient position throughout the total course of treatment. Large side cut-outs allow a full range
of treatment angles.
All Thorawedge parts are made of a thermally moulded PE foam. Whilst this material offers high patient comfort, it does not compromise the stability of the Thorawedge
as the PE foam is firm enough to support heavy patients. Because of its low weight of merely 1,6 kg, the system can be easily lifted and moved around the department by
medical staff. It can be cleaned and disinfected with commonly used types of cleaning agents.
The Sinmed Thorawedge system has been co-developed with the Department of Radiotherapy of the University Medical Center in Utrecht, The Netherlands. |
