  • The use of a Sinmed carbon fiber couch* insert can help assure accurate and reproducible patient positioning throughout the entire course of radiation treatments.
  • By design, the inserts are rigid which minimizes any sagging of the patient, such as can occur with traditional tennis racket inserts or foil.
  • The rigidity of the Sinmed carbon fiber couch insert helps avoid any setup variations that can happen when moving the patient between equipment i.e.: simulator, CT and linear accelerator couches.

Sinmed carbon fiber couch inserts are engineered to make optimal use of the mechanical properties of the carbon fiber and core materials with minimal effect to the delivered dose. The mechanical properties of the inserts have been calculated and tested to meet the required specifications. Extensive mechanical testing has also been performed following exposure to y-radiation, using a dose equivalent to 5 years of therapeutic treatment.

The materials used in the Sinmed carbon fiber couch inserts were chosen because they provide strength, rigidity, are lightweight and have minimal effect on the delivered dose.
