• When patients are placed in a supine position with the neck extended (chin up), additional support for the shoulder area is often required. This is not only comfortable for the patient as it decreases muscle tension in the upper back, but also enables the patient to extend the neck more than in a flat position.
• This wedge shaped cushion supports the shoulders and upper body of the patient. When placed over one of our Posifix baseplates, the contours of the baseplate hold the cushion firmly in place ensuring a reproducible set-up of the patient throughout the total course of treatment.
• Preferably it is combined with a carbon fiber wedge that is placed backwards in the cushion recess of the Posifix baseplate, which is then fitted with one of the Sinmed head supports. It may also be used when treating patients in a prone position as a support for the upper thorax. The head is then positioned in one of the Sinmed prone head supports.
• The shoulder support cushion is made of a durable and lightweight polyethylene foam that can be cleaned and disinfected with commonly used types of cleaning agents.
